INTRODUCTION TO THE FOUNDATION PROGRAMME
We provide foundation programmes for General and Technical English, Mathematics, Physics and IT. All classrooms are equipped with cutting edge educational technology and software, and course objectives are met using modern teaching methodology. Our student-centred approach fosters independent learning, and our overall objective is to graduate disciplined students who have the required skills to excel in their chosen field of aviation. All students are tested at the point of entry to determine the appropriate programme required.
GENERAL ENGLISH PROGRAMME
The aim of the course is to develop our student’s General English skills and to instil good habits of study and attitude. Our ultimate goal is to provide students the tools they need to become independent learners of academic English. The General English course material has a multi-layered, topic-based syllabus which includes thorough and comprehensive work on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and skills of reading, writing and speaking. The course consists of 6 levels, taking students from elementary to Technical English. Each level is 11-12 weeks in duration with a total of 220 contact hours. On successful completion of the General English course, students will enter the relevant Technical Foundation Course.
THE TECHNICAL FOUNDATION PROGRAMME
The Technical Foundation Courses have been designed so that students learn a range of scientific and mathematical skills and concepts through the medium of English in order to prepare students for further training in a variety of aviation-related disciplines. Each course uses the most appropriate balance of Technical English language, Mathematics, Physics and IT to thoroughly prepare the students both academically and linguistically.
The emphasis in Technical Foundation courses is on helping students to become less reliant on the teacher and independent in their learning. Students study individually, in small groups and as a class, utilizing a broad range of material, from the latest multimedia technology to teacher-based material. A major feature of the courses is the incorporation of materials to be used by the students in the next stage of their training and in the future workplace.
The courses have been designed so that the students learns a range of scientific and mathematical skills and concepts through the medium of English. In addition, the practical focus of the classes leads to them being both dynamic and interactive.
* English for Engineering
Foundation Tech I is designed to prepare students to be fully competent in the basic language of engineering and is designed for ground avionics and Mechanical Engineers. The course is taught from an assortment of engineering related sources but uses Garnet Education’s Take Oto deliver the key vocabulary and terminology. Engineering English is conducted in a classroom equipped with Smart Technology.
* English for Pilots & Air Traffic Controllers
at Foundation Tech I is designed to prepare students to be fully competent in Aviation basics and is designed for Pilots, Air Traffic Controllers and Meteorologists. The course is taught from an assortment of aviation related sources but uses Oxford’s Aviation English to deliver the key vocabulary and terminology. Aviation English is conducted in a classroom equipped with Smart technology.
* English for Airport Operations Management
at Foundation Tech I is designed to prepare students to be fully competent in the language skills required for Airport Operations Management. The course is taught from two language-focused textbooks with an emphasis on aviation terminology and vocabulary. AOM is conducted in the regular classroom and the language laboratory where students complete their written assignments including the class blog. The course features a practical assignment conducted onsite as an excursion to the airport, where students are able to consolidate what they have learned in class.
The Foundation Program offers different courses of Mathematics, Physics & I.T.
The aim of our Mathematics Course is to teach our students the mathematical skills required to be successful in their future studies in the mathematics and science required for the various fields of aviation. We use the internationally recognised Accuplacer online placement test to accurately and efficiently assess how many levels of mathematics a student requires. We run 6 courses which include a wide range of mathematical topic areas. On successful completion of the General Mathematics Course students will enter the relevant Technical Foundation Course (including Physics or IT).
The physics course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of Physics in the field of aviation and to teach the study skills required for their further training in their major departments. It includes Mechanics, Dynamics, Pressure, Density, Thermo dynamics, Electricity, Magnetism and Waves. The lessons are offered in classrooms equipped with Smart-boards for interactive learning and supported by the Physics course book.
This course is designed to provide students with a basic knowledge of Information Technology and a firm grounding in the study skills required for their further training in the Airport Operation Management Department.
